Our Technology
Powered by Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, & GenAI that’s built to empower, not replace, your expertise.
Most CLM software companies approach AI backwards — they build platforms first, then add AI as an afterthought.
We figured this out 8 years ago while working on a Big Four firm's audit platform modernization. The AI tools they'd invested in could do impressive analysis but were fragmented, surprisingly hard to use, and impossible to customize. We watched teams struggle with systems that cost a fortune but couldn't adapt to their specific needs. Even with massive resources, contract data was scattered and inaccessible.
We realized we were seeing both the promise and the problem with contract AI, which is why we decided to build our platform differently: make AI the foundation, then build everything else around it.
Our Story
2017
The Year of Ground-Up Training
We turned the SEC's EDGAR database into our training ground. Pulled contracts from public filings and spent months manually labeling them to build our first machine learning models. This gave us complete ownership of our training data and let us automatically extract the clauses that matter, like renewal dates, governing law, and indemnity clauses.
2018
The Year We Democratized AI
We built AutoML so legal teams could train their own models. Users could upload contracts, tag examples, and watch the system learn to extract custom attributes. This democratized AI, giving teams autonomy to track any clause that mattered to their business.
2019
The Year We Solved Contract Migration
We launched Sort Assist to handle massive legacy contract migrations. Enterprise customers brought thousands of old contracts that needed organizing before implementation could begin. Our tool automatically classified contract types, spotted duplicates, and turned weeks of work into hours.
2020
The Year We Crowdsourced Intelligence
We created a self-improving system where every click made the platform better. When someone corrected an extraction or confirmed it was right, the whole platform got smarter for everyone. We also added Bulk Tagging so teams could apply labels at scale and speed up model training.
2021
The Year We Revolutionized Redlining
GenAI opened up entirely new possibilities for contract redlining. Instead of basic find-and-replace, our system could explain its reasoning, follow company playbooks, and adapt to different contract styles. Redlining became this strategic tool for negotiation rather than just another manual task.
2022
The Year Contracts Went Conversational
Natural language contract analysis arrived with Saige Assist: Contract Advice. We enabled people to ask questions like, "What's the termination clause for this contract?" and get instant, accurate answers. Dynamic risk scoring also started flagging problematic clauses before they escalated into costly issues.
2023
The Year GenAI Got Better Integrated
Instead of requiring people to come to us, we delivered AI directly into their workflows. We integrated our AI with Salesforce, Workday, and other platforms so users could access insights without switching apps, and legal intelligence reached frontline decision-makers.
2024
The Year We Expanded Our AI
We expanded our AI suite to tackle more busy work across operations. We developed customer support AI that drafts replies using ticket history and help systems that truly understand our platform. Teams could get more done in less time without cutting corners.

We built our AI with a human-in-the-loop approach because the best decisions happen when technology and people work together. Our models provide recommendations and explanations, but you always have the final say. We also keep your data secure and isolated, which you can learn more about by visiting our trust center.
Key principles that guide our approach:
- Human oversight: You control how and when AI recommendations are applied
- Data security: Your contracts remain private and are never shared between customers
- Transparency: Our AI explains its reasoning so you understand how decisions are made
- Compliance: We meet GDPR, SOC 2, HIPAA, and other security standards
We realized we were seeing both the promise and the problem with contract AI, which is why we decided to build our platform differently: make AI the foundation, then build everything else around it.

Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about how IntelAgree works, what it can do, and how to make the most of it. Whether you're reviewing language, searching for specific terms, or training your attributes, IntelAgree brings a new level of speed and clarity to the contracting process.
We started with a practical problem: not enough customer data to train meaningful models. So we pulled public contracts from the SEC's database, labeled them ourselves, and built our own ML models from scratch. This gave us complete control over quality and accuracy, and let us shape AI into something actually useful instead of just impressive on paper. Those early decisions still power everything we build today.
Most vendors bolt AI on after the fact, either by acquiring companies or plugging in third-party APIs. We took a different approach and built our AI infrastructure from day one. That means every AI feature is deeply integrated with the platform, not sitting in a silo. Features work together, improve each other, and evolve as a system, so users see exponential improvements over time instead of isolated gains.
We help teams cut contract review time by 50% or more, automatically spot risky clauses, surface metadata without manual tagging, and turn implementation timelines from weeks into hours. Our AI drives decisions through risk scoring, clause detection, redlining, and dynamic Q&A that all feed into how legal and business users interact with contracts, saving time and lowering risk.
No. That's what makes us unique. Through features like AutoML and GenAI, we've eliminated the need for technical expertise. You simply label a few clauses, or even describe what you want, and our models handle the rest. Customers have trained thousands of models without ever involving a data scientist.
Absolutely. Sort Assist automatically classifies contract types, languages, signatures, and duplicates. This is crucial for post-acquisition cleanup or enterprise-scale onboarding. What used to require a dedicated migration team now takes minutes instead of months, and sets up all the downstream contract intelligence instantly.
We use GenAI where traditional ML falls short, like in redlining, clause explanation, and interactive contract Q&A. Our GenAI can reason through playbooks, justify its suggestions, and adapt to different negotiation styles. Unlike point solutions, it connects to risk scoring, search, and metadata, making every interaction smarter.
Yes. We've embedded our AI into platforms like Salesforce and Workday, so users can redline, monitor risks, or ask contract-related questions without ever opening IntelAgree. The platform meets people where they work, so legal intelligence isn't confined to the legal team anymore.
Our redlining goes beyond compare-and-replace. It uses AI to understand negotiation context, company playbooks, and the risk implications of each clause. One Fortune 500 healthcare organization, for example, chose us partly because our redlining matched the depth and nuance their legal team needed, while competitors offered shallow substitutions.
Not anymore. Traditional ML required 20-100+ examples to train a model. With GenAI, you can start with zero labeled data. Just describe the clause or risk you care about, and the platform finds it. Over time, your interactions create a feedback loop that improves accuracy automatically.
Everything in IntelAgree is built to interconnect. Tagging improves search. Search improves risk scoring. Risk scoring improves redlining. And all of it flows into Saige Assist: Contract Advice, where users ask questions and get better answers based on the intelligence the platform has gathered along the way.
We continuously test open-source and commercial models in real product environments. The decision always comes down to what performs best for actual customer use cases. For ML, we use proprietary models. For GenAI, we use a mix, but often rely on OpenAI models because of their superior instruction-following, which is essential for contract redlining and Q&A.
IntelAgree is a fully featured CLM platform. We offer the same core capabilities as any top-tier provider: contract creation, negotiation, eSignature, repository, reporting, etc. But we have deeper, smarter AI integrated at every layer. Our AI isn't a sidecar — it’s the engine.
Yes. Customer data always stays private and secure. We don't use customer contracts to train GenAI models. GenAI responses are based only on prompts within each customer's instance — never shared, never reused. That's a key difference between how we handle traditional ML (which uses anonymized, tokenized data across customers) and GenAI (which keeps context and content isolated per customer). It's also why we can show our work using your contracts, not anyone else's.

“Before, if someone asked us how many contracts contained a specific clause, I'd have to sift through over 160 contracts... now we can have an answer in minutes, and I have more time freed up for contract negotiation.”
